Photo winners capture life in Central Otago
A schoolgirl was one of the winners in a photography competition celebrating people at work and play in Central Otago.
The competition, in its eighth year, was part of the annual Alexandra Thyme Festival and attracted 48 entries from throughout the district.
The people's choice winners, with a record 457 votes overall, were Tom Lamb, Leanne de Groot and Olivia Healey. Mr Lamb, 70, a workplace chaplain, said he was lucky to be in the right place at the right time with his Canon EOS 450D camera.
His photo of a canoeist on a glassy Lake Dunstan in August won first prize.
"It was dead calm. I took two or three shots. It was just a chance photo."
Second prize went to Leanne de Groot, who shot a close-up portrait of a patient undergoing dental work called Open Up Wide.
Olivia Healey, 11, an Alexandra Primary School pupil, won third prize for her shot Hang Loose, of her friend Emma Dick swinging from a tree.
She and her friends had joined the school's photography club and it was the first time she had entered a competition, she said.
